Vulnerable Children's Act Safety Statement

The purpose of the Vulnerable Children's Act safety checking is to keep children safe from child abuse and neglect. All RTLB in Cluster 7 have completed safety checks that have been done to the standard set out in the Vulnerable Children's Act 2014. Records are held by the cluster manager regarding safety checks and registration details. Although the cluster manager cannot provide you with photos of registration cards due to privacy issues you are welcome to confirm teacher registrations on the teachers council site.

Children's Action Plan and Vulnerable Children Act 2014 Information direct from www.education.govt.nz:

You may have questions about the Children’s Action Plan and changes being introduced under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children's Workers) Regulations 2015. The Children’s Action Plan website provides a complete overview of the plan, the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the regulations, including guidance documents, factsheets and questions and answers.

The Vulnerable Children’s Act defines a children’s worker as someone who works in or provides a regulated service and their work may or does involve regular or overnight contact with a child or children (other than children who are co-workers). This work takes place without a parent or guardian of the child or of each child being present.
In the education sector these regulated services include education services provided at, by or on behalf of schools, kura and ECE services. This includes anyone that schools, kura and ECE services contract to provide those education services.
Responsibility for safety checking employees and contractors always rests with the employer or contracting organisation. This includes identifying whether each role in your organisation is a core children’s worker or non-core children’s worker role.
Boards of trustees or Early Childhood Education service providers (as the employers), or a principal or manager acting on their behalf must ensure that a teacher in their school or service is safety checked in accordance with the VCA Regulations before they start any new contract from 1 July 2015 onwards.
